This blog post aims to answer some general frequently asked questions about our artemis products and business
Where are your products made?
Artemis started in 1998 in Dunedin and we are still proudly New Zealand owned and operated. All of our products are formulated and made right here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Most of our products are made at our facility in Auckland, but some that contain our special extract of Central Otago Thyme are made in the South Island so we can ensure freshness.
Where do your herbs come from?
As medicinal plant experts, we source plants from wherever they grow best in the world. The plants in our products come from Europe, Australia, and Aotearoa New Zealand.
And while we shouldn’t pick favourites, we do have a special hero ingredient which features in all of our respiratory and immune range, and that is Central Otago Thyme, which we lovingly and sustainably harvest and extract ourselves from right here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We are actively engaged with farmers and projects around the country to try and source more ingredients from New Zealand. Our unique climate and relative clean green status means that the plants that grow here tend to be world-class.
Is your packaging environmentally friendly?
We try our best to use packaging options that are more reusable or recyclable to minimize impact on the environment. All of our oral liquids are packed in glass and cardboard that is recyclable in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our tea cannisters are fully cardboard, but need to be unrolled in order to go into your kerbside recycling in NZ. You can also reuse them! Think pen holders or pots for seedlings 😊
We are in the process of changing the inner bags that the tea comes in to cellophane, which is biodegradable.
Are your products suitable for vegetarians/vegans?
Almost all of our products are vegetarian and vegan-friendly, and we proudly state this on the label.
The only exception is for those who choose not to consume honey, as our Mānuka Thyme Lemon Tonic, contains mānuka honey.
Are your products suitable for diabetics?
Almost all of our products are suitable for diabetics, including our oral liquids and teas.
The only exceptions are the De-Stress Spray, which contains a small amount of apple syrup; and Thyme Lemon Tonic and Mānuka Thyme Lemon Tonic, which contain sugar and Mānuka honey. These would need to be taken into account with your daily sugar intake.
Can I take your products when I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
Many of our products are suitable during breastfeeding and if you have a normal healthy pregnancy. Please check the label of the specific product you want to use, and contact us if you have any questions.
Are your products suitable for children or infants?
Our Kid’s Range is specifically designed for children and infants. Many of our teas can also be taken by young children or even infants. Always check the label or the product page of the individual product for age recommendations and dosage.
Are your products suitable to take with my health condition?
While many of our products are suitable to take when you have a health condition, this will depend on the condition and what product(s) you want to use.

Are your products suitable to take alongside my medication?
While many of our products are suitable to take alongside medication, this will depend on the specific medication, your health status, and what product(s) you want to use.

Are your products suitable to take if I have allergies?
As long as you are not allergic to any of the individual ingredients listed on the product label, it should be suitable.
It is worth noting that sometimes an allergy to one member of a family of plants (eg: the Daisy family) can cross over to an allergy to another plant from that family.
All of our products are formulated without gluten, wheat, animal products, dairy, egg, soy, corn, artificial flavours, colours, sweeteners or preservatives.

Where can I buy artemis products?
Artemis products are sold all throughout Aotearoa New Zealand in health shops, pharmacies, on our website, and through selected online retailers. We do not sell in grocery stores because we want you to have access to a health professional if you need it.
